Job Family Concept
The Library/Museum job family provides customer service to faculty, staff, and students. This job family is responsible for the planning, development, and administration of library/museum services and programs in order to promote and support student success, research, instruction, and public outreach. This family performs cataloging; acquisition, management, maintenance, and preservation of library/museum collections; accessibility of resources; development and application of special information systems; development of educational/outreach programs; dissemination of collections to scholars, students, and the public.
Roles
Library/Museum AssociateResponsible for providing library/museum technical support and assistance for daily operations by providing a variety of related library/museum functions; including but not limited to, storage, circulation/reference desk procedures, inventory, collections, and assisting with programs and displays. Competencies for this role are typically acquired through on-the-job training. |
Library/Museum ProfessionalResponsible for performing complex library/museum work in specialized areas such as archives, documents, collection development, cataloging and metadata, searching, reference circulation, acquisitions, and periodicals requiring the application of special skills, knowledge, and independent judgment. This role provides specialized support and instruction for the educational and research needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community by maintaining bibliographical data. Library/Museum Professional roles require specialized knowledge of library/museum operations, applicable information systems, and other related technology. Competencies for this role are usually gained through formal education, specialized training, and/or experience in a program or specialty area specific to the position responsibilities. Specialized and progressively responsible experience is required as the level increases. |
Library/Museum ManagementResponsible for providing strategic leadership for all functions of the library/museum in collaboration with other academic units. Manages budgets and provides expertise and analysis for long-range strategic planning. Management level roles have the management and development of people as a major accountability. This role accomplishes goals through overseeing areas of responsibility, planning, managing resources, prioritizing, and directing the responsibilities of employees. |
