New Faculty
Welcome to East Tennessee State University!
You have made a good decision to join our faculty. ETSU is a great place to learn, study, and work. Faculty are the heart of our institution and we want to help you be successful.
New Faculty Orientation is a two-stage process designed to help you:
- Provide some context about the region, the university, and the students we serve,
- Discover resources that can support your teaching, research, and service,
- Develop some lasting collegial relationships with other new ETSU faculty.
The first stage is a one-day, on-campus New Faculty Orientation event planned to give you some basic building blocks to get started, as well as to become familiar with people who can support your excellence in teaching, research, and service.
The second stage, Sustained Onboarding, happens over the course of the remaining academic year. With Sustained Onboarding, you can select the topics most relevant to your development needs and attend sessions as they fit within your schedule. We ask you to complete 4 CTE learning sessions over the academic year. We offer a broad variety of sessions in multiple modalities; learn more by going to our Sustained Onboarding page.
As part of what can be credited toward your Sustained Onboarding, our Center for Teaching Excellence offers a number of community-building programs throughout the academic year that can provide a social network as well as in-depth explorations about teaching to assist in your career progression. One of those programs is a year-long New Faculty Learning Community. We encourage you to think about joining this community as a way to build connections across campus and receive timely teaching support!
We’re excited you’ve chosen to work at ETSU! Please let me know if you need any information or assistance.
