High School Tennis Team Headed To State

University High School tennis won the Region 1-A Individual Titles for both boys and girls divisions yesterday (May 15).  Lily Mefford and Jordan Havert won the Individual Doubles Regional Girls Championship. In the boys Regional Individual Doubles tournament, Graham Mefford and Kyrylo Hnatusko took home the championship. Kaylee DeGennaro also had a valiant effort, finishing in the top 4 in the Individual Region.  Last week, at the TSSAA Team Regional 1-A tournament, both the UH Boys & Girls teams won their respective divisions.  Those team members are: (boys) Graham Mefford, Brady Weems, Sathvik Ramu, Gavin Olsen, and Swink Hutchinson; (girls) Lily Mefford, Jordan Havert, Kaylee DeGennaro, Annie Hayes, and Sofia Villanueva.  Leading the teams are coaches Matt Trivett and Mike Norris. 

 

Sectionals for the teams are Thursday (May 18) at the ETSU Rec Tennis Courts for both boys and girls.  With a win, the teams will qualify for the TSSAA state tournament in Murfreesboro next week.  The Individual Double champions -- Lily Mefford, Jordan Havert for the girls and Graham Mefford and Kyrylo Hnatusko for the boys – have already qualified for the State Tournament.
