The branches of Pharmacy include research and practice. Retail/Consumer/Hospital and Laboratory work. We call these Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Science.
In Pharmacy Practice, the student is given education in compounding, Pharmacy science, Pharmacy medicine and consumer pharmacy practice. All students are given practicum in a pharmacy but in Pharmacy Practice, the student is taught how to manage a pharmacy business. Adding the MBA or MPH dual degree increases a student's knowledge and experience. The student will graduate with a PharmD degree.
In Pharmaceutical Sciences, the student is more focused on research, developing new medicines and biologicals, and treating disease in novel ways. New ways to administer drugs are also developed. Our faculty and students have developed new treatments for cancer and diabetes, with other projects in progress. Our institution offers a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
