For ChatGPT, once on the prompt page, you can enter a prompt question with as much detail and caveats as you'd like to include. You can almost frame it as though you were asking a friend.
After its reply, if you need further refinement or to clarify a parameter, you can do so with follow-up questions or commands.

ChatGPT can help get people started with ideas when they feel stuck. It can provide reasonable first drafts of writing, but at a relatively basic level.
You might find ChatGPT is helpful when you need to think of an active way to teach some material in your class!
