Reflect
Dewey famously said, "We do not learn from experience... We learn from reflecting on experience."
Having our students reflect on their experiences inside and outside of the classroom
is a very good way to help solidify their learning and strengthen metacognition. Consider
multiple avenues to embedding regular reflection into your course.
At Regular Intervals
- DEAL Critical Reflection: Describe, Examine, Articulate Learning
- I Used to Think...Now I Think: A Project Zero Thinking Routine
At Mid-Term
- Mid-Semester Focus Group Feedback: As a part of mid-semester feedback, consider asking students (or request that our CTE Staff ask students) about their progress toward the learning goals of the class. Can they rate their confidence about each? Note which ones they still need to work toward? Identify questions they have about learning goals that have already been addressed?
