Dr. Miranda Chen Musgrove was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, where she earned her B.Sc. with Honors in Biology, minoring in Environmental Studies at York University. At the end of her undergrad, considering a career as a conservation manager of some sort, she sought out her Masters in Science with Dr. Sapna Sharma, examining the impacts of projected climate change on the distributions of cisco, an important forage prey fish. Though becoming an ecological modeler was a lot of fun, Miranda found her passion for education research, mentoring, and working with faculty and students. Two weeks after defending her Masters, she packed up and moved south to work on her doctorate with Dr. Beth Schussler in science education research, investigating teaching anxiety, research anxiety, and coping in Biology Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs). She has had the privilege of working with Dr. Lisa Corwin at the University of Colorado, Boulder, as a postdoctoral research associate, investigating the barriers faced and supports needed for community college faculty to pursue educational research.
Currently, Miranda is an Adjunct Faculty at ETSU's Biological Sciences Department, Affiliate with ETSU's Center of Excellence in STEM Education, and full-time Researcher/Evaluator at Goshen Education Consulting, Inc., where she takes all her science education research skills to help evaluate STEM programs for federally funded initiatives.
Outside the firm, you can find Miranda and her husband volunteering with their church community, trying out new international recipes, or trying to keep up with their ever-moving toddler while preparing for their next bundle of joy.
