The Creative Arts Scholarship Program is for first-time, out-of-state graduate and undergraduate students, including international and transfer students. Applicants must be accepted to ETSU before they will be considered for a Creative Arts Scholarship.
The ETSU Department of Theatre and Dance offers professional training in a liberal arts setting. Undergraduate students are prepared for careers in the performing arts and theatre education by providing a broad-based foundation in theatre and dance through individualized mentoring. The diverse faculty and staff, comprised of working professional artists dedicated to advancing the discipline, offer instruction in stage and film performance, dramaturgy, design and technology, and unique areas such as Aerial Dance and Entertainment Rigging. This program is distinct in that it focuses on addressing each student's needs whether they seek a career as performer, designer, technician, educator or other chosen profession. Through experiential, hands-on learning, this department strives to produce well-rounded graduates who are skilled in thinking critically and who contribute as artists and citizens to the lives of their communities, the region, and the larger society.
Criteria
A student must apply as an entering first-time freshman with a 2.5 high school GPA, a 22 ACT score, 3.0 GPA in dance, and an overall 2.5 GPA.
Application

Expectations
Maintain a 3.0 GPA in Theatre and 2.75 overall GPA
Audition for a role in a Main Stage, faculty-directed production each semester or
work as a technical member of a Main Stage production each semester (stage manager,
designer, or running crew: lights operator, sound operator, wardrobe assistant, stage
hand, etc.)
Involvement of a minimum of 5 hours per week is required
Enroll in and complete a Theatre and/or Dance course each semester
Enroll as a full-time student at ETSU, majoring in Theatre, minoring in Theatre, or
minoring in Dance
Recipients who are first year freshmen must live on campus and buy a meal plan first
year.
Students who fail to meet these criteria will lose their scholarship for all future
terms.
Award
New out-of-state students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels are eligible (including international students) to receive in-state tuition rates. ETSU Creative Arts Scholarships run for one academic year. Scholarships are paid in two equal installments—one at the beginning of the Fall semester and the other at the beginning of the Spring semester.
