Dr. Nivens is extensively involved in undergraduate and graduate STEM education. He
is an instructor in the Eastman Chemical Company’s Scholar MathElites Program, and
was a consultant for the State of Missouri Mathematics Academy from 2001-2007. Since
2008, he has authored nine STEM grants totaling $228,000 and co-authored five STEM
grants totaling over half a million dollars. He has served as president of two mathematics
education organizations and has published several articles on innovative ways to teach
mathematics. He started his career as a secondary mathematics teacher.
