Inducted in March as a Distinguished Fellow into the National Academies of Practice at a black-tie gala in San Diego.
Asked to serve on expert panels for the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) and the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR).The IUPHAR Core Concepts project aims to transform pharmacology education by developing a consensus about the fundamental ideas that all pharmacology graduates should remember, understand, and apply years after they graduate. A key outcome of the project will be to develop a validated instrument called a concept inventory that educators can use to determine whether their students have attained the core concepts of the discipline. In 2021, a survey was developed and distributed to pharmacology educators globally. Responses were received from over 200 pharmacology educators in 20 countries, and the project team established a rigorous and innovative methodology to identify and unpack the core concepts. The next stage was a Delphi process. An Expert Group, comprised of 24 members representing 12 countries with over 450 collective years of pharmacology education experience, completed 3 rounds of the Delphi process and identified 25 core concepts. The working group will be meeting in Italy in June to further establish definitions and sub-competencies.
