The Medical Student Education Committee (MSEC) is the curriculum committee of the Quillen College of Medicine, with full responsibility to oversee the undergraduate medical education program as a whole and has responsibility for the overall design, management, integration, evaluation, and enhancement of a coherent and coordinated medical curriculum.
The Medical Student Education Committee (MSEC) meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. by zoom, except for Retreats and the Annual Meeting, which are in person in the QCOM Medical Library basement. Year 1
M1M2 & M3M4 Curriculum Review Subcommittees: Annual reviews focus on educational outcomes such as general evaluations and grades. -
Year 2
M1M2 & M3M4 Curriculum Review Subcommittees: Annual reviews continue focusing on educational outcomes. -
Year 3
M1M2 & M3M4 Curriculum Review Subcommittees: Comprehensive reviews focus on educational outcomes plus analysis of trends, teaching, assessment, content, sequencing, integration, gaps, and unplanned redundancies. -
Year 4
Ad Hoc Phase Review Committee and Review of the Curriculum as a Whole Working Group: Ad Hoc Phase: Designated members of the standing subcommittees and medical education progream evaluates the effectiveness of the preclerkship phase and clinical phase of curriculum. MSEC reviews the curriculum as a whole (program evaluation) and determines whether changes are needed to ensure a coherent and coordinated curriculum. Courses/Clerkships reviewed administratively unless deemed necessary for the standing subcommittees to perform the review. -
Year 5
Implementation Phase: Develops, plans, and implements findings from the Ad Hoc Phase and review of curriculum as a whole.
Institutional Outcome Subcommittee - Establishes objective benchmarks for each institutional educational objective category and other curriculum goals. Evaluates each established outcome measure at least annually.
Curriculum Integration Subcommittee (CIS) - Conducts reviews of and reports to MSEC on curriculum content to monitor effectiveness of selected curricular topics. Uses teams of subcommittee members and/or ad hoc faculty and students to review each curriculum thread every three (3) years.

The LCME site visit was completed in late October 2019. The College of Medicine received notification of the LCME determination in February 2020 of continued full accreditation of the medical education program for an eight year term.

The LCME Co-Secretaries host interactive discussions of LCME standards/elements and procedures on the third Thursday of each month (January - October) unless identified otherwise.
