Job Family Concept
The Administrative job family is responsible for supporting, coordinating, supervising, managing, or directing administrative activities and operations in support of programs, projects, departments, schools, colleges, or institutes. Administrative roles perform, lead, supervise, or manage a broad range of administrative, program, technical, clerical, or office support activities. This includes but is not limited to grants and contracts, financial services, human resources, student services, and general administrative, medical, or academic areas.
Administrative roles support the management of the University and may provide professional
administrative expertise by coordinating, researching, recommending, and implementing
overall administrative initiatives. The Administrative job family is designed to cover
a broad cross section of administrative functions where a general knowledge base is
required.

Administrative AssociateResponsible for performing general administrative support tasks by following established policies and procedures. Competencies for this role are usually gained through specialized or on-the-job training. |
Administrative Program SupportResponsible for providing a combination of administrative, recruitment, event coordination, logistical, and monitors budgets in support of programs. This role specifically provides support for a program rather than a person or department. Competencies for this role are typically gained through specialized or on-the-job training. |
Administrative ProfessionalResponsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and delivery of programs. This role demonstrates a level of expertise in one or more areas and is responsible for the interpretation and application of broad policies and procedures. May supervise the work of others; however, this is a secondary function of the role. Competencies for this role are usually gained through formal education, specialized training, and/or experience in a program or specialty area specific to the position responsibilities. Specialized and progressively responsible experience is required as the level increases. |
Administrative Project ManagementResponsible for all phases of project management from project design to completion. Focuses on full complement of project management using specialized knowledge and skills usually acquired through formal education, specialized training, or certifications. This role may supervise or provide work direction to others; however, this is secondary to the primary functions of the job. Competencies for this role are usually gained through formal education, specialized training, and/or experience in a program or specialty area specific to the position responsibilities. Specialized and progressively responsible experience is required as the level increases. |
Administrative Business ManagementResponsible for managing the financial and budgetary functions of a department in addition to other functional areas (Finance, HR, Strategic Planning, and Staffing) with the responsibility of interpreting and applying broad policies and procedures related to those areas. This position typically has supervisory responsibilities. Competencies for this role are usually gained through formal education, specialized training, and/or experience in a program or specialty area specific to the position responsibilities. |
Administrative ManagementResponsible for the administrative leadership, direction, training, and operational management of a department, division, college, institute, campus, or system wide administration. Provides strategic expertise and guidance on a broad cross-section of administrative functions. This role accomplishes goals through overseeing their areas of responsibility, planning, managing resources, prioritizing, and directing the responsibilities of employees. |
