What is OpenBUCS?
OpenBUCS is the Open Buccaneer University Course System, which provides free, online courses to anyone, anywhere and provides an optional path to college credit.
What Courses are Being Offered?
OpenBUCS classes being offered throughout the year are:
- History 2020 - U.S. History since 1877
- Music 1030 - Introduction to Music
How Much Does the Course Cost?
The OpenBUCS course is free and open to everyone, however, there are costs associated with pursing the path to credit. Total costs and fees for completing the path to credit will be $335 (for U.S. students). See our Path to Credit Page for more information.
Do I Need a Textbook for the Course?
No. The courses are fully self-contained and everything you need will be available to you through the course.
How Long Does the Course Last?
The course lasts 8 weeks. Students wishing to pursue the path to credit will have until one academic year to take the Pre-Credit Assessment and enroll in the special ETSU course related to his/her completed OpenBUCS course.

How Long Do I Have After Completing the Course to Attempt Getting Credit?
Students will have one calendar year from the completion of the course to purchase the Pre-Credit Assessment and complete the steps for enrollment in the ETSU special course related to the student's completed OpenBUCS course.
