Application Process
Applications for the 2025 Summer Pre-Research Internship open Oct. 15, 2024 and the deadline to submit all application materials is March 15, 2025. The Summer 2025 internship will be held June 2nd - July 28th.
Step 1: Eligibility Check
Before submitting any parts of the application, it is essential to complete the Eligibility Check before the deadline.
Do not move forward in the application process until you have the following information. Without the following information your eligibility checklist will be incomplete and cannot be processed.
When completing the eligibility check, you will need from your most recent tax return 1) number of people reported in household, and 2) taxable income. In most instances, the federal government requires that you submit your parents' latest tax return. However, if you filed your own taxes independent from your parents AND are considered an independent student, submit a copy of your latest tax return. If you or your family did not file a tax return, submit a notarized letter stating that you did not file a tax return.

Once you complete the Eligibility Check and submit the corresponding documents to our office, we will review your information. If you are eligible, we will email the application link to you. In the application, you will be required to submit information for two recommenders including their name, title (Dr., Mr., Ms.), name of institution, institutional email address, and phone number.
Step 3: Schedule Interview
After we receive your application and recommendations, our office will reach out to schedule an interview with you. The interview is approximately one hour in duration and are typically held during the months of January - April.
Step 4: Wait for Decision
The McNair Program interviews several applicants before making a final decision. Decisions will be made no later than May 1, 2025.
Step 5: Sign Contract
If you have been accepted into the program, you will be extended a contract that must be signed within two weeks of being informed of the decision prior to moving forward.
Step 6: Onboarding
The final step of the application process is to complete the on-boarding paperwork which is sent after the contract is signed and before the summer internship begins in June.
