Remember: Our goal is student learning!
If you are trying to make a decision based on an unexpected curve ball, err on the side of student learning (over student compliance).
For example: A student requests another extension.
Consider: Is it better for them to do the assignment and gain the learning it enhances, or miss the assignment, get a zero, and skip that learning?
We recommend going ahead and permitting the extension. [With the caveat that if extensions are getting out of hand for you, you have the right to explain this to the class as the reason why you are having to get firm about them and not permit more.]
