S
tefanie Murphy, is originally from Minneapolis, MN, a city known not only for being situated in the Land of 10,000 Lakes but also as the hometown of the iconic Super Star, Prince Rogers Nelson. She developed a strong passion for ice skating, one of her favorite outdoor sports. During her indoor moments, she pursued gymnastics. Her high school years led her to Waycross, GA, a location renowned as the gateway to the Okefenokee Swamp, which is recognized as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia and happens to be the largest "blackwater" swamp in North America. The name "Okefenokee" translates to "land of trembling earth." In 1996, Stefanie and her future husband settled in Johnson City, TN.
Stefanie achieved degrees in Information Processing and Administrative Services from
Valdosta State University. Following this, she completed a degree in Foreign Languages
at East Tennessee State University. Currently, she is eagerly working towards obtaining
a Graduate Certification in Teaching English as a Second Language.
Within the University Advisement Center, Stefanie adeptly serves as an Academic Counselor,
dedicated to guiding students through their academic journeys and helping them overcome
obstacles. Notably, she established a collaborative partnership between the Literature
& Language Department and St. Mary's Church, offering valuable English as a Second
Language classes to non-native English speakers.
Her involvement also extends to being a sponsor for ETSU's Dance and Cheer teams,
actively participating in events alongside the teams. Over the years, Stefanie has
been an engaged member of the ETSU Staff Senate. During this time, she notably served
three consecutive terms as President, the only one to do so in the existence of the
Staff Senate. Additionally, she takes on roles as the Graduate Advisor for Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Inc., Omicron Rho Chapter, and as a Faculty Advisor for the ETSU Catholic
Center.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Stefanie finds joy in performing on stage and has even
made appearances on television. Among her cherished activities is the preservation
of Jonesborough, TN's untold stories, ensuring that these narratives remain alive
in the world's memory. Stefanie can often be found on campus attending events with
her husband, Ash, and their son, AJ.
Like a flower; color the world with your own special kind of bloom.
