Focus Area Training
ETSU is committed to a non-discriminatory living, learning, and working environment for the entire campus community. All ETSU employees and students benefit from civil rights education. University Compliance and campus partners work together to ensure the ETSU community has access to in person and online training opportunities. ETSU provides all employees and new students online discrimination and harassment training.
Mandatory Reporting Resposibilities for Employees
All ETSU Employees are designated as Mandatory Reporters and must report actual or suspected incidents Sexual Misconduct committed by or against any ETSU employee or student to the University upon actual or perceived knowledge that such conduct has occurred, regardless of whether the person who has provided the information wishes to file a complaint pursuant to this policy.
Mandatory Reporters must report all of the following situations: (1) any direct knowledge of Sexual Misconduct committed by or against any ETSU employee or student to University Compliance or Public Safety when the Mandatory Reporter actually or perceives knowledge that such conduct has occurred; (2) any allegation reported to Mandatory Reporter of Sexual Misconduct committed by or against any ETSU employee or student to University Compliance or Public Safety when the Mandatory Reporter actually or perceives knowledge that such conduct has occurred; and (3) any indirect receipt of information about Sexual Misconduct committed by or against any ETSU employee or student to University Compliance or Public Safety when the Mandatory Reporter actually or perceives knowledge that such conduct has occurred.
Exception: ETSU Employees whose job responsibilities place them in a doctor-patient, therapist patient, attorney-client, clergy-penitent relationship(s), and/or faculty conducting officially recognized research with a student who reports any of the aforementioned conduct are not required to report this information. However, it is still recommended that such employees contact the ETSU Office of University Compliance to confirm such an exception exists.
Discrimination and Harassment Training for Employees
Ingrained in our institutional mission and vision, treating people with dignity and respect is a core value that involves all employees and affects our ability to educate our students and work together in an atmosphere conducive to building relationships on honesty, integrity, and trust. Because you are an employee of East Tennessee State University and a valued member of the ETSU community, we encourage you complete the Harassment & Discrimination Prevention training provided through our external vendor Vector. For purposes of training, employees include all full and part-time staff and faculty, temporary, student service employees, and all volunteers.
- If you are a new hire, you will receive an email with links and instructions to complete your initial training. You will receive reminder emails throughout the semester until you complete this valuable training course.
- Current employees will be notified annually via email to renew their harassment and discrimination training.

Sexual Assault Prevention Training for Students
Sexual Assault Prevention is an online course that will empower undergraduate and graduate students to make well-informed decisions about issues that affect your college years and beyond. This training is provided for all new students to East Tennessee State University. New students will be notified via their ETSU email account with instructions on how to complete Sexual Assault Prevention.
Please note some content in the training course includes topics that you may find disturbing and/or traumatizing. If you have received an email notifying you to complete your training and you need assistance or you need to arrange an alternative training, please contact the Office of University Compliance at compliance@etsu.edu or 423-439-8545.
