Chapter 30: Montgomery GI Bill® - Active Duty
The Montgomery GI Bill® - Active Duty (Chapter 30) (also called "MGIB" or "MGIB-AD") is an education benefit that provides up to 36 months of full-time payments to eligible veterans and service members for approved education and training programs. MGIB-AD (Chapter 30) may also be used to reimburse you for certain VA-approved national tests and tests for licensure or certification.
Chapter 31: Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E)
The VR&E program is authorized under Title 38, U.S. Code, Chapter 31. It is referred to as the Chapter 31 program. It assists entitled Veterans with service-connected disabilities and an employment handicap to prepare for, obtain, and maintain a job. It also helps entitled transitioning Servicemembers. If you are a Servicemember or Veteran with a service-connected disability and not currently able to work, VR&E also offers services to help you live as independently as possible.
Chapter 33: Post 9/11 GI Bill®
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) helps you pay for school or job training. If you’ve served on active duty after September 10, 2001, you may qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33). This benefit may also be transfered to an eligible dependant of the service member also known as Ch.33 TOE.
Chapter 35: Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA)
If you’re the child or spouse of a Veteran or service member who has died, is captured or missing, or has disabilities, you may be able to get help paying for school or job training through the DEA program—also called Chapter 35. Find out if you’re eligible for this benefit.

Chapter 1606: Montgomery G.I. Bill® - Selected Reserve
The Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR, Chapter 1606) is an education program. It provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members of the Selected Reserve. This includes the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Reserves. It also includes the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.
The Tennessee STRONG (Support, Training, and Renewing Opportunity for National Guardsmen) Act establishes a pilot program to provide eligible members of the Tennessee National Guard tuition funding toward a first time bachelor degree for the next four years through a tuition reimbursement program. The STRONG Act provides educational opportunities for those who protect and serve our state and country and supports the Drive to 55 goal of equipping 55 percent of Tennesseans with a degree or certificate by 2025.
U.S. Army Federal Tuition Assistance
Members of the U.S. Army active, reserve, and national guard may qualify for Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA). This benefit provides up to $250.00 per credit hour for up to $4,000 or 16 credit hours per federal fiscal year. Soldiers that are using TN Strong benefits must utilize the FTA first. Soldiers can submit FTA funding requests must be submitted no later than 7 days prior to the start of the course.
