What is the cost of a repurposed PC?
The cost is $125, which covers an extended warranty (hardware and software support) on the 4 year-old computer for an additional 2 years. -
How long can I keep the repurposed PC?
The repurposed PC belongs to your department until the computer reaches end of life and is surplused. Older computers may be removed from the network if they cannot be updated and consequently become a security risk. -
How many repurposed computers will be distributed?
The Repurposed Computer Program retains a minimum of 20% (approximately 80 each year) of the Dell desktop computers scheduled for replacement. ITS will distribute as many as possible based on availablility and ability to accomodate. -
How many times a year will the repurposed project be opened for request?
ITS will provide repurposed request forms year-round, approximately 8 repurposed computers monthly. -
What are appropriate use cases for repurposed PCs?
These computers are intended to provide computing resources in areas not eligible for university-sponsored computers, examples would include student workers, graduate assistants, adjunct faculty, and generic departmental use. -
Is there a limit on the number a department may request?
No, but ITS will take measures to ensure that distribution of repurposed PCs is as fair and equitabe across campus as possible. -
What criteria will be used to determine distribution of Repurposed PCS?
Repurposed PCs are distributed based on their intended use, including who will use the computer, if it will be replacing an existing PC, and the age of the existing PC to be replaced. -
