Remote Delivery Plan
Syllabus Update
Be sure to update your syllabus to reflect altered course policies and expectations. Include a statement that your syllabus has been modified and may continue to be updated during the emergency. Upload your syllabus to D2L.
Stay Informed
Review any ETSU websites regarding the current situation. Be sure to check your email frequently for information from ETSU administrators and your department. Communicate with your department chair and colleagues for guidance on how they plan to handle delivering their content online. Contact Academic Technology Services for additional assistance with teaching online during an emergency.
Access Important Files Remotely
OneDrive
Access your important information remotely by uploading files to a cloud service such as Microsoft OneDrive. Consider if campus-based software such as Banner access is critical from home, and if so, apply for off-campus remote access.
Remote Access
ETSU has 2 ways of connecting to the ETSU network or resources remotely. Depending on your needs, you can apply for access to Remote Desktop Gateway (RDG) or the Virtual Private Network (VPN). The following will describe the use case for each.
VPN - A VPN connection allows your remote computer to be off-campus and connect to the ETSU network as if it were on the local ETSU network. Once connected, your computer will have access to resources that you can normally access on campus such as the S:\ Drive, T:\ Drive, Banner, Argos, etc. A VPN can also run Remote Desktop to connect to a computer at ETSU.
RDG - Remote Desktop Gateway allows you to use a remote computer to connect back to your computer on the ETSU campus. This allows you to log in and see your desktop and files as if you were sitting at your computer. The Remote Access usage policy can be found at this site.
Hardware Check
While most online development and delivery can be accomplished with little more than an internet connection, a computer or laptop is recommended over a mobile phone or tablet. If you plan to utilize audio or video for either asynchronous recordings or live web-conference meetings, a microphone, and a camera will also be required. Check the hardware available to you, either built-in to your laptop or mobile device or purchased as a separate peripheral accessory.
