Khia Hudgins-Smith
The work she implements is focused on cultural competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion for underserved and marginalized student populations enrolled at the University.
Before coming to the Counseling Center at ETSU, Khia spent five years working in private practice at the Journey Center for Healing Arts in Johnson City, TN. During her time there, she focused her work on adult and adolescent transgender individuals and started support groups to optimize their care and sense of community. Khia received her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice in 2012 from ETSU and is excited to be back on campus to be an advocate and provide representation and visibility of diversity in the counseling center. Khia is also level 2 trained in Brainspotting, a brain-body-based mindfulness modality with foundational aspects close to EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). She recently received her 200HR Yoga Certification, which she earned through Downtown Yoga's Black Yogi scholarship in 2020.
Outside work, Khia loves spending time with her partner, their fur babies consisting of two beagles and a westie, singing, gardening, lifting weights, crocheting, reading, teaching yoga, and enjoying nature.
