Student Employment

The Department of Campus Recreation at the Center for Physical Activity is one of the largest on-campus employers of students. Campus Recreation provides flexible hours and an opportunity to develop transferable skills. APS, Federal Work Study, and Regular Student Worker positions are available. Applications are also accepted from students that do not meet work study requirements. Pay begins at $7.25 per hour

Aquatics | Lifeguards, Swim Instructors

Requirements: Lifeguards must be American Red Cross Lifeguard certified. WSI is preferred to be employed as a Swim Instructor.

Applications for Lifeguard position - please attach proof of American Red Cross Lifeguard certification with resume.

Lifeguard
  • Ensure patron safety on pool deck and in water
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work area
  • Work as part of a team to provide preventative attention and response in emergency situations
Swim Instructor
  • Perform, demonstrate, and teach specific strokes and safety measures to a variety of age groups
  • Communicate and collaborate with other aquatics staff to schedule swim lessons
  • Acquire feedback from patrons and parents, and apply a scholar-practitioner approach to swim lesson plan design and implementation

Operations | Casual Care Attendant, Facility Operations Assistant

Requirements: Casual Care employees must be American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certified and successfully complete a background check.

Casual Care
  • Supervise and monitor the safety of the children in their care
  • Help children keep good hygiene
  • Change the diapers of infants and toddlers
  • Organize and conduct activities that allow children to have fun and learn
  • Communicate with parents regarding any behavior/injury issues
  • Follow cleaning and sanitation protocols
Facility Operations
  • Provide customer service, assistance and information to facility users
  • Work as a team to ensure the operation of a safe and clean facility
  • Enforce facility policies related to facility access, dress code, safety, and security
  • Perform Equipment Desk duties including, but not limited to, operating recreational services software, providing checkout and check-in services of locker keys and equipment, and towel/laundry service
  • Assist with the set-up, break-down, and cleanup of special events held within the facility
  • Other duties as assigned

Fitness | Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer

Requirements: Group Fitness Instructors must be American Red Cross CPR/AED certified and be certified in group fitness instruction. Personal Trainers must be American Red Cross CPR/AED certified and must be certified from a nationally recognized agency.

Intramural Sports | Official, Program Assistant

Requirements: Intramural Supervisors must be American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certified.

Official
  • Provide fair application of the playing rules during intramural competition including, but not limited to: flag football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down of facility operations
  • Attend in-service trainings and meetings
  • Additional tasks as assigned
Program Assistant
  • Assist with participant registration and sign-in
  • Record scores during intramural competitions
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down of facility operations
  • Attend in-service trainings and meetings
  • Additional tasks as assigned

Outdoor Adventure | OA Attendant

Requirements: OA Attendants must be American Red Cross CPR/AED certified. Other certifications, such as Wilderness First Aid, ACCT Challenge Course Facilitator I, or PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor, are recommended but not required. 

OA Attendant
  • Assist patrons by providing basic climbing safety information and demonstrating proper climbing technique and belay instruction
  • Administer and manage registration for programs, belay certification tests, and other related materials
  • Provide team building and aerial adventure course facilitation for organized groups and open high challenge course programs
  • Facilitate discussions, encourage participants, and support individuals and groups in their learning experience
  • Attend in-service trainings and meetings
Additional Opportunities
Opportunities for Trip Leader, Rental Equipment Attendant, and Buc Bike Attendant available for employees upon hire and additional training

 Graduate Assistantships

Campus Recreation offers Graduate Assistant positions. Graduate Assistants receive a full-time tuition waiver and paid stipend over a nine-month (Aug 15 – May 15) appointment with the option for summer employment. Currently, all Graduate Assistant positions for the 2017-2018 academic year are filled.
